In August 2018 after the earthquake hit Lombok, ALERTAsia through Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) of Ministry of Health facilitated the deployment of 12 students to assist local health office in conducting post-earthquake health surveillance and investigation in affected areas.

The investigation and surveillance implemented from 10 August - 24 September 2018 in four batches:
  • Batch 1: 4 students deployed on 10 - 24 August 2018
  • Batch 2: 2 students deployed on 22 August - 5 September 2018
  • Batch 3: 4 students deployed on 27 August - 10 September 2018
  • Batch 4: 2 students deployed on 10 - 14 September 2018

The main activities for the team is to support local health office in: (i) conducting analysis of health situaition in North Lombok, East Lombok, and West Lombok; (ii) conducting infectious and non-infectious disease surveillance in evacuation camps; and (iii) preventing outbreak of infectious disease in evacuation camps and surrounding affected areas.
