As a part of flagship program of WHO South East Asia region which was adopted in the sixty-sixth meeting of the Regional Committee for South East Asia Regional Committee in 2013, Government of Indonesia has committed to achieve measles elimination and rubella control by 2020. In pursuing this goal, two phases of MR campaign established to fill the immunity gap for the said diseases in children age 9 months to <15 years old. The first phase was targeting 35 million children and completed in 2017. The second phase was targeting 32 million children and took place in August - September 2018 in 28 provinces in Indonesia.

The activity of MR campaign include:
(i) providing technical assistance to district and health officers in planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the Measles-Rubella vaccination to reach 95% coverage at all levels, and;
(ii) strengthening routine immunization and surveillance of vaccine preventable disease.

To support this activities, ALERTAsia deployed ten FETP alumnus to work together with the Immunization Division of Ministry of Health and WHO in campaigning and advocating MR vaccination to districts in Aceh and North Sumatera.
