The Measles-Rubella Immunization Campaign Phase II (MR-II) has completed. The Final Review Meeting was held on 13 - 16 January 2019 at Mercure Hotel Ancol, Jakarta. This meeting was organized to disseminate and evaluate the program results, as well as to formulate the strategic way in implementing the program ahead.

The MR-II program is targeting immunization of 32 million children in Indonesia. Started July 2018 to January 2019, ALERTAsia has deployed 10 Technical Assistants to 31 districts, which divided in 10 duty stations in two provinces as follows:
  • Aceh Province, comprises 4 duty stations in Takengon, Meulaboh, Kota Langsa, and Tapaktuan
  • North Sumatera Province, comprises 6 duty stations in Kota Padang Sidempuan, Kota Tebing Tinggi, Gunung Tua, Kota Tarutung, Kabanjahe, and Slabat

Based on the review result, the campaign only reached 72.39% of the total national coverage, 6 out of 28 provinces have achieved target 95% of immunization coverage at all levels. In this case, North Sumatera and Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam are categorized as provinces with the lowest coverage which has less than 50% coverage (see the map below). It is said that among other reasons, the lack of support from local stakeholders’ and religious belief might become the most challenging issues faced by the Technical Assistants in implementing the campaign. In this highlight, support from government in socializing the means of immunization to local community as well as involvement of broader stakeholders that includes the religious leaders are seen as essential strategies to push this program forward.
