As a part of flagship program of WHO South East Asia region which was adopted in the sixty-sixth meeting of the Regional Committee for South East Asia Regional Committee in 2013, Government of Indonesia has committed to achieve measles elimination and rubella control by 2020. In pursuing this goal, two phases of MR campaign established to fill the immunity gap for the said diseases in children age 9 months to <15 years old. The first phase was targeting 35 million children and completed in 2017. The second phase was targeting 32 million children and took place in August - September 2018 in 2 provinces in Indonesia.

Within 6 months, 10 Technical Assistants will be deployed to 31 districts which divided in 10 duty stations in the following targeted areas:

1.   Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province
  • Takengon Duty Station comprises Kab. Bener Meriah, Kab. Aceh Tengah, Kab. Gayo Lues, and Kab. Aceh Tenggara;

  • Meulaboh Duty Station comprises Aceh Jaya, Aceh Barat, and Kab. Nagan Raya;

  • Kota Langsa Duty Station comprises Kota Langsa, Kota Lhokseumawe, Kab. Aceh Tamiang, and Aceh Timur;

  • Tapaktuan Duty Station comprises Kab. Aceh Barat Daya, Kab. Aceh Selatan, Kota Subulussalam, and Kab. Aceh Singkil.

2. North Sumatera Province
  • Kota Padang Sidempuan Duty Station comprises Kab. Mandailing Natal, Kab. Tapanuli Selatan, and Kota Padang Sidempuan;

  • Kota Tebing Tinggi Duty Station comprises Kota Tebing Tinggi, Kab. Batu Bara, and Kab. Serdang Bedagai;

  • Gunung Tua Duty Station comprises Kab. Padang Lawas and Kab. Padang Lawas Utara;

  • Kota Tarutung Duty Station comprises Kab. Pak Pak Bharat, Kab. Tapanuli Tengah, and Kab. Tapanuli Utara;

  • Kabanjahe Duty Station comprises Kab. Dairi, Kab. Karo, and Kab. Humbang Hasundutan;

  • Slabat Duty Station comprises Kab. Langkat and Kota Binjai.

The MR campaign program consist of two main activities: (i) providing technical assistance to district and health officers in planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the Measles-Rubella vaccination to reach 95% coverage at all levels, and; (ii) strengthening routine immunization and surveillance of vaccine preventable disease.

To support this activities, ALERTAsia deployed ten FETP alumnus to work together with the Immunization Division of Ministry of Health and WHO in campaigning and advocating MR vaccination to districts in Aceh and North Sumatera.
