Prof. Dr. dr. Sangkot Marzuki


Professor Sangkot Marzuki is the Co-chairman and co-founder of ALERTAsia Foundation and the President of the Indonesian Academy of Sciences, and also was the Founding Director of the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology.

Professor Marzuki holds honorary appointments as a Professor of Medicine at Monash University, and Professor of Medical Sciences at University of Indonesia, and Adjunct Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Queensland.

He graduated as a medical doctor in 1968 from the University of Indonesia and obtained his M.Sc from Mahidol University in 1971, and completed his PhD in 1975 and awarded a higher doctorate (D.Sc) in 1998, both from Monash University, and a doctor honoris causa from Utrecht University in 2006, and doctor of science honoris causa from University of Queensland in 2010.

He has received several awards for his dedication to science, including an ASEAN Outstanding Scientist Award in 2005 and Bintang Mahaputra Utama of the Republic of Indonesia in 2009, and made a Member of The Order of Australia in the same year
